Baby,
it's cold outside. But even though Winter is
around the corner doesn't mean you
should give up your exercise routine. Follow
these tips from the Mayo Clinic to get on your
way to better health.
Layer it on. Many cold
weather exercisers dress too warmly. Instead
of bundling up, dress in layers you can remove
and then put back on as needed.
Head into the wind. You'll
be less likely to get chilled on the way back
if you end your workout - when you may be sweaty
- with the wind at your back.
Drink plenty of fluids. Drink
liquids before, during, and after your workout
- even if you're not thirsty.
Protect your extremities. When
it's cold, blood goes to your body's core,
leaving hands and feet vulnerable to frostbite.
Try a thin pair of gloves under heavier gloves
or mittens. Buy exercise shoes a half-size
larger than usual to allow for thicker socks.
Remember sunscreen. It's as
easy to get sunburned in winter as in summer.
Wear a sunscreen that blocks UVA and UVB rays
and has an SPF 15+.
